Travala flights paid in crypto: refunds, fees and an alternative (Oct 2026)

What do Travala flights offer?

Travala flights cover 600+ airlines, with 129 payment options. Travala reports $113 million of gross revenue in 2025, and 78% of its 2024 bookings paid in crypto. In October 2026, it reported more than 17,000 bookings a month.

Its strengths for flights:

• Coins and networks: 129 payment options, USDT on six networks, and BTC on Lightning.
• Coverage: 600+ airlines, plus hotels and other services.
• Guest checkout: you can book without an account.

Its limits for a crypto payer are the refund rules and the flight refund fees, explained below.

How does Travala refund a crypto payment?

As Travel Credits, for a direct crypto payment. Its help centre says these credits can be used only on Travala. They can't be converted to cash or crypto, and they can't be transferred. The refund comes within 7 business days after Travala receives the funds from its supplier.

Two payment routes are exceptions:

• Binance Pay: refunded in USDT, in Binance Pay.
• Crypto.com Pay: refunded in the same crypto, at the current rate.

Card payments go back to the card. An overpayment is also returned as Travel Credits.

What fees does Travala publish for flights?

Travala announces no fee for paying in crypto. For flights, its terms (section 9.5) set two fees on top of the airline's own fees:

• $15 per booking to void a ticket;
• $25 per person to process a refund.

Its terms also allow a card surcharge (section 8.5). Its help centre says the crypto rate is held for 40 minutes, while its payment page shows 10 minutes to pay.

Does Travala require KYC?

Not at checkout: guest checkout is possible. But its terms allow Travala to ask for an ID check at any time and to freeze funds (sections 4.4 to 4.6 and 8.4). Customer funds are held by BitGo Singapore (section 8.3).

Its terms also list prohibited jurisdictions (sections 1.3 and 2.3). They cover named sanctioned countries and areas, plus any area under UN, EU, US, UK or Singapore sanctions. Our own list is on where we can't sell.

What does SatFares do differently from Travala?

Five facts, with no opinion:

1. Refund currency: after an airline cancellation, you get USDT or USDC within 7 days, or balance credit only if you choose it.
2. Refund fees: our refund table has no processing fee of ours.
3. Held, not charged: the total waits on your balance while our team books on request. It is charged when the airline issues the e-ticket number, or released if the ticket can't be issued in time.
4. Networks published: each network and its confirmations, such as 20 for USDT on TRC-20 and 12 on ERC-20.
5. No ID upload at checkout: no passport scan and no selfie. Airline ID rules still apply.

The balance rule, word for word: Unused balance stays on your account and never expires. Amounts released when a booking can't be confirmed, or refunded after a cancellation you did not request, can be withdrawn in USDT or USDC; the rest of the balance is not refundable.

When is Travala the better choice?

Travala fits better in these cases, per its own pages:

• you want to pay with Bitcoin Lightning, or a coin we do not take;
• you pay with Binance Pay, which Travala refunds in USDT;
• you also want a hotel, an activity or a car in the same place;
• you hold AVA tokens and use its giveback programme.

SatFares also has limits: bookings are made on request, with no issuing time promised. Flights to or from the United Kingdom are paused at launch.
