Does EU Regulation 261/2004 cover Frankfurt to Bangkok?

Yes, for the outbound flight, whatever the airline. The regulation covers every flight that departs from an EU airport, so Frankfurt to Bangkok is covered.

The return flight is different. A flight from outside the EU into the EU is covered only when an EU airline operates it. Bangkok to Frankfurt on a non-EU airline is not covered by the regulation.

On a cancellation, the airline must offer a refund of the ticket or re-routing. Under Article 7(3), a voucher instead of money needs the passenger's signed agreement. Source: Your Europe, checked on October 12, 2026.

What does SatFares do if the airline cancels?

You get a refund in USDT or USDC within 7 days, or a balance credit, as you choose. A balance credit is only used if you ask for it, which matches the EU rule on vouchers.

If you cancel the trip yourself, the fare rules decide the amount, and it is credited to your balance. Your flight booking will be bound by the fare rules and Conditions of Carriage of the airline(s). More on refunds when the airline cancels.

Why would a German traveller pay for a flight in crypto?

Mostly to spend crypto already held, not because of a card problem. Germany ranks 13th in the 2026 Chainalysis Global Crypto Adoption Index. We do not claim any card limit for German travellers.

Tax deserves a check first. Under § 23 of the German Income Tax Act, a gain on a private asset sold within one year is taxable. It stays tax-free only if all such gains in the calendar year total less than 1,000 euros. Paying with crypto may count as such a sale; ask a tax adviser. Paying in crypto may be a taxable event in your country.

Can I pay in crypto once I am in Bangkok?

Not in shops, as a rule. Thailand does not allow paying shops in crypto outside the TouristDigiPay sandbox, announced on August 18, 2025. That sandbox converts crypto to baht for tourists; its 2026 status was not found. We sell the ticket; paying on the spot is another matter.

Bangkok still lists 95 places on BTC Map within 25 km, all verified since 2025 (October 12, 2026). Bangkok has two airports, Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Don Mueang (DMK). See flights to Bangkok.

What do I need for the flight and for entry to Thailand?

Each traveller's names exactly as in the passport, date of birth, gender and passport details. We pass them to the airline only. No ID upload, no selfie at checkout. Airline ID rules still apply.

Entry rules for Thailand depend on your nationality and are set by Thai authorities. Check them with official Thai government channels or a Thai embassy before you fly. We do not give visa advice.

Held, not charged

  1. Your balance is held at checkout

The exact total shown is held on your balance. Nothing is charged yet.

  2. We book the ticket for you

Bookings are made on request: our team books the ticket with the airline and confirms the final total. If it is higher than the amount held, you accept the new total or the amount is released.

  3. Charged only when the e-ticket number is issued

Your balance is charged when the airline issues the e-ticket number. If we can't get the ticket issued in time, the full amount is released to your balance.

If the total changes before the ticket is issued, you see the new total and choose: accept it, or have the amount released. Nothing extra is ever taken without your agreement.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pay for a Bangkok flight with ETH?

Yes. ETH on the Ethereum network is credited after 12 confirmations. Top up from $25, then book Frankfurt to Bangkok from the balance. The fare is in US dollars, so the amount of ETH you need depends on its price when you top up.

Is the fare shown in euros?

No, in US dollars. The price shown is the fare found live for all passengers, in US dollars, taxes included, with no fee added; the final total is confirmed before you are charged. You pay from a crypto balance, so no euro card payment is involved at checkout. The amount held at checkout is the total shown. If our team finds a higher total when it books the ticket, you accept it or the amount is released.

Am I covered by EU rules on the way back from Bangkok?

Only if an EU airline operates the return flight. EU Regulation 261/2004 covers flights into the EU from outside only when the operating airline is an EU airline. The outbound flight from Frankfurt is covered whatever the airline. Check the operating airline in each result before you book the return.

Can I land at Don Mueang instead of Suvarnabhumi?

You can search both Bangkok airports. This page covers Frankfurt to Suvarnabhumi (BKK); Don Mueang (DMK) is the city's second airport. Each search result shows the arrival airport, so check it before you book. Both airports are in our data for Bangkok, so the search accepts either code.

Is this booking a travel package?

No. A SatFares booking is a single travel service, so EU package travel protection does not apply. We sell flights only. Flights are not ATOL protected. Read is this a package. Your rights come from the airline's fare rules and, for the flight out of Frankfurt, from EU Regulation 261/2004.

What happens if the e-ticket is not issued?

The full amount is released to your balance. This applies when our team can't get the ticket issued in time. SatFares charges your balance only when the airline issues the e-ticket number. You can then book another flight from the same balance, or withdraw the released amount in USDT or USDC.

Do I have to upload my passport?

No. There is no ID upload and no selfie at checkout. You type the passport details the airline needs, and we send them to the airline only. Your passport is checked at the airport. Check that the details you type match the passport you will travel with.
