Does EU passenger law protect a São Paulo to Lisbon flight?

Partly: it depends on the direction and on the airline. EU Regulation 261/2004 covers every flight that departs from the EU, so Lisbon to São Paulo is covered with any airline.

A flight that arrives in the EU from outside is covered only when an EU airline operates it. So São Paulo to Lisbon is covered with an EU airline, and not with a non-EU airline. Check the operating airline in your search result.

What do Brazilian card and stablecoin rules mean for a flight to Lisbon?

A Brazilian card used abroad pays IOF, and a euro fare adds a currency conversion on top. Nubank, a Brazilian card issuer, gives an IOF rate of 3.5% on card purchases abroad, on a page updated August 25, 2026.

Stablecoins are not outside these rules. Since February 2, 2026, the Central Bank of Brazil treats buying or paying with stablecoins as a foreign exchange operation (Resolution 521). We could not confirm how IOF applies to that operation.

On SatFares, the fare is shown in US dollars and paid from a balance in USDT, USDC or another accepted coin. Pay in stablecoins; local tax and exchange rules still apply. Paying in crypto may be a taxable event in your country. More on flights from Brazil.

Who flies São Paulo to Lisbon?

In our latest market fare survey, the airlines observed for São Paulo to Lisbon included Air Europa, GOL, TAP Air Portugal, LATAM. On October 12, 2026, for a departure on November 11, TAP Air Portugal and LATAM flew non-stop. Air Europa connected through Madrid, and TAP also through Porto. LATAM had a connection through Fortaleza, and GOL through Rio de Janeiro.

Only sanctioned airlines are excluded from the survey, along with any itinerary that stops in the United Kingdom or in a sanctioned country. These are market fares, not our selling price: the live price at checkout may differ.

For EU passenger rights, look at the operating airline of each result, not only the airline that sells the ticket. TAP Air Portugal and Air Europa are EU airlines; LATAM and GOL are not. The live search shows the airlines, stops and total for your dates.

What happens to my money if the flight is cancelled?

If the airline cancels, you get a refund in USDT or USDC within 7 days, or a balance credit, as you choose. EU law points the same way: under Article 7(3) of Regulation 261/2004, a voucher instead of money needs the passenger's signed agreement.

If you cancel yourself, the fare rules of the ticket decide the amount, and it is credited to your balance. Your flight booking will be bound by the fare rules and Conditions of Carriage of the airline(s). Full details: refunds when the airline cancels.

What do I need to travel from São Paulo to Lisbon?

A valid passport, entered at checkout exactly as printed, with the traveller's date of birth and gender. The airline needs these details for an international flight, and we send them to the airline only. No ID upload, no selfie at checkout. Airline ID rules still apply.

Entry rules for Portugal are set by Portuguese and EU authorities and depend on your nationality. Check them with official Portuguese government channels before you fly. We do not give visa advice.

Held, not charged

  1. Your balance is held at checkout

The exact total shown is held on your balance. Nothing is charged yet.

  2. We book the ticket for you

Bookings are made on request: our team books the ticket with the airline and confirms the final total. If it is higher than the amount held, you accept the new total or the amount is released.

  3. Charged only when the e-ticket number is issued

Your balance is charged when the airline issues the e-ticket number. If we can't get the ticket issued in time, the full amount is released to your balance.

If the total changes before the ticket is issued, you see the new total and choose: accept it, or have the amount released. Nothing extra is ever taken without your agreement.

Frequently asked questions

Is a São Paulo to Lisbon fare shown in euros or reais?

Neither. SatFares shows fares in US dollars, for all passengers, taxes included. The price shown is the fare found live for all passengers, in US dollars, taxes included, with no fee added; the final total is confirmed before you are charged. You pay from a crypto balance, so the euro and the real play no part at checkout.

Which stablecoin should I use from Brazil?

USDT or USDC both work, and both follow the US dollar. USDT can be sent on Tron (TRC-20) or Ethereum (ERC-20); USDC on Ethereum (ERC-20) only. Choose the network your wallet or exchange supports. Compare them on USDT or USDC for flights.

Am I protected by EU rules on the way to Lisbon?

Only if an EU airline operates the flight. EU Regulation 261/2004 covers flights arriving in the EU from outside only when the operating airline is from the EU. On the way back, from Lisbon to São Paulo, it covers any airline.

Can I use Pix to pay?

No. SatFares accepts crypto only: Bitcoin (BTC), Tether (USDT), USD Coin (USDC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), Litecoin (LTC). There is no Pix, card or bank transfer option. You top up in crypto from $25, then book from the balance. Unused balance stays on your account and never expires.

Is my ticket a travel package?

No. A SatFares booking is a single travel service: one flight booking, not a travel package. EU package travel protection does not apply. Flights are not ATOL protected. Read is this a package. Your rights come from the airline's fare rules and from passenger law, such as EU Regulation 261/2004 where it applies.

What happens if the airline cannot issue my ticket?

The full amount held on your balance is released. This applies when our team can't get the ticket issued in time. Your balance is charged only when the airline issues the e-ticket number. Amounts released this way can be withdrawn in USDT or USDC. You can also keep it on your balance for another booking, since the balance never expires.
