How much can I spend abroad on a naira card in 2026?

It depends on your bank, and several banks changed their limits between August and September 2026. On September 7, 2026, Nairametrics reported these limits for naira cards:

  • GTBank: $40,000 a quarter, double the $20,000 limit in place on August 10, 2026.
  • Zenith Bank: $50,000 a year.
  • FirstBank: $10,000 a quarter for POS and online payments on the naira Mastercard, and $1,000 a day at ATMs.
  • Stanbic IBTC: $8,000 a quarter on Mastercard naira debit cards.

For UBA, the same report gave $20,000 at POS on its World USD card, which is a dollar card, not a naira card. It gave $10,000 for online payments.

On August 9, 2026, Legit.ng reported the Access Bank limits: $3,000 a month on Visa Signature and Platinum cards. Visa Classic and Mastercard cards had $2,000 a month. The same report gave Stanbic IBTC at $100 a month, a figure replaced one month later. It also reported that UBA applied 1,378 naira per dollar to international naira card payments on August 3, 2026.

These limits move fast, so check your own bank before you book. Pay in stablecoins; local tax and exchange rules still apply. Our Card Friction Index keeps every figure with its date and source.

Which coin and network should I use from Nigeria?

A dollar stablecoin keeps the amount stable between your top-up and the e-ticket. SatFares accepts USDT on Tron (TRC-20) or Ethereum (ERC-20), and USDC on Ethereum (ERC-20) only. You can also pay in BTC, ETH, SOL or LTC.

  • Send USDT on TRC-20 only to the TRC-20 address shown. Funds sent on another network may be lost.
  • A top-up is credited after the network confirmations: 20 on Tron, 12 on Ethereum, 2 on Bitcoin.
  • The minimum top-up is $25. Unused balance never expires: see pricing.

The payment goes from your wallet to SatFares on the blockchain. Your bank's rules still apply to how you buy crypto. Read USDT on TRC-20 for the steps, and will my bank see it? for what your bank can see.

Held, not charged

  1. Your balance is held at checkout

The exact total shown is held on your balance. Nothing is charged yet.

  2. We book the ticket for you

Bookings are made on request: our team books the ticket with the airline and confirms the final total. If it is higher than the amount held, you accept the new total or the amount is released.

  3. Charged only when the e-ticket number is issued

Your balance is charged when the airline issues the e-ticket number. If we can't get the ticket issued in time, the full amount is released to your balance.

If the total changes before the ticket is issued, you see the new total and choose: accept it, or have the amount released. Nothing extra is ever taken without your agreement.

Do I owe tax in Nigeria when I pay for a flight in crypto?

You may. Since January 1, 2026, the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 taxes gains on digital assets as income. Individuals pay up to 25% (Mariblock, September 20, 2025). It replaced the 10% capital gains tax of the Finance Act 2022. The Act also requires virtual asset service providers to report transaction details to the tax authorities.

Spending coins that have gained value since you bought them can therefore create a taxable gain. Keep a record of each top-up: date, coin, network and amount. Paying in crypto may be a taxable event in your country. Ask a Nigerian tax adviser about your own case.

What do airlines need from a traveller flying out of Lagos?

No ID upload, no selfie at checkout. Airline ID rules still apply. For each traveller we need the first names and surname exactly as in the passport, the date of birth and the gender. An international flight also needs the passport details. We pass them to the airline only. You show your passport, and a visa when the destination requires one, at the airport. Details: what data airlines require.

Paying for flights from Nigeria: questions

Can I pay for a flight from Lagos with USDT?

Yes. Top up your SatFares balance with USDT on Tron (TRC-20) or Ethereum (ERC-20), then book.
